Patients’ Aid JPMC Rehabilitation | Turning Disability into Ability

Patients’ Aid JPMC Rehabilitation services focus on one of the most sensitive topics in our society: disability. It is more than a medical condition; it is a life experience shaped by physical, emotional, and social hurdles. As we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we must highlight how medical support at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) helps people live with dignity.

According to the World Health Organization, 1 in every 6 people worldwide lives with a disability. In Pakistan, thousands of people struggle daily with limited movement, health conditions from birth, or chronic illnesses. This journey is not just a medical one; it is a constant fight for basic access. For this reason, Patients’ Aid JPMC Rehabilitation serves as a vital lifeline for the poor, ensuring that a lack of money never stops someone from walking or living a full life.

One more challenge that is often neglected is the silent but devastating impact of polio in the slums and rural communities of Pakistan. In many parts of Interior Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, and KPK, limited access, rampant misinformation, and low awareness keep countless children from receiving this life-saving vaccine. As a result, preventable paralysis and lifelong disabilities continue to rob young lives of their potential, an irreversible reality families are left to face. All too often, parents only rush to public hospitals when the first frightening symptoms appear.

This is where Patients’ Aid Foundation steps forward, filling the gaps, strengthening public healthcare, raising awareness, and making life easier for persons with disabilities (PWDs) at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi.

Through your generous donations, Patients’ Aid works day and night to make healthcare not only accessible but truly inclusive for all.

Patients’ Aid Foundation’s Mission for an Inclusive Pakistan

Patients’ Aid Foundation firmly believes that healthcare is certainly a right, not a privilege. Regardless of social or economic status, every person deserves the chance to live a healthier, more empowered life. With the support of compassionate Pakistanis, Patients’ Aid has worked tirelessly to create a more inclusive environment at JPMC, where PWDs receive the same dignity, attention, and care as all other patients.

At JPMC, the Foundation ensures that persons with disabilities have equal access to treatment, diagnostic services, rehabilitation, and surgical care. This support directly aims to change lives, reducing pain, restoring mobility, and bringing hope to families who otherwise cannot afford quality care.

Differently Abled but Same as Us

The Physiotherapy and Orthopaedic Departments at JPMC

Since 2018, the Physiotherapy Department at JPMC has been instrumental in helping individuals with disabilities regain strength, mobility, and independence. Serving thousands of patients each month, the department provides hope for those with congenital conditions, injuries, spinal issues, stroke-related impairments, and long-term mobility challenges.

Equipped with advanced modalities such as deep wave therapy, magneto therapy, shock wave therapy, short wave therapy, and other state-of-the-art tools, the department enhances cellular permeability, reduces swelling, alleviates pain, improves blood circulation, and promotes muscle relaxation and bone healing. Approximately 200 patients receive treatment daily, utilizing Multigym setups, treadmills, stationary cycles for cardio, and Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) devices for upper and lower limb rehabilitation. These resources play a vital role in expanding the range of motion and improving overall physical health. Visit Patients’ Aid’s Instagram for more detail.

Through Patients’ Aid Foundation’s support, the physiotherapy unit is equipped with modern therapeutic tools, trained rehabilitation staff, and essential facilities, all provided completely free of cost. Skilled physiotherapists work closely with patients to design personalized treatment plans that help them perform daily activities with ease and confidence.

Similarly, the Orthopaedic Department at JPMC, supported by Patients’ Aid Foundation, revamped recently in 2025, provides comprehensive care through its OPDs, Surgical Units, emergency trauma support, and Post-Operative Care wards. Many patients with physical disabilities require orthopedic interventions such as corrective surgeries, post-surgical rehabilitation, mobility aids, and continuous medical monitoring, all of which are made possible at JPMC through generous community donations.

A major advancement at JPMC’s Orthopaedic department is the provision of prosthetic limbs with the support of Patients Aid. This is solely to empower individuals to turn their disability into ability, enabling them to regain independence, move more freely, and participate fully in daily life.

These departments welcome persons with disabilities with compassion and professionalism, ensuring that every individual receives treatment tailored to their needs.

How Physiotherapy and Orthopaedics Support Persons with Disabilities

For persons with disabilities, physiotherapy and orthopedic care are not luxuries, they are necessities. These services:

  • Restore mobility in individuals who have difficulty walking or moving
  • Improve muscle strength and prevent long-term deformities
  • Reduce pain caused by chronic orthopedic conditions
  • Provide post-surgical recovery for trauma or congenital deformity patients
  • Help children with disabilities learn proper posture and movement patterns
  • Promote independence, allowing patients to lead productive and dignified lives

At JPMC, every PWD who walks into these departments is treated with empathy, respect, and hope. Thanks to Patients’ Aid Foundation, these services remain free, accessible, and continuously improving.

JPMC’s Clubfoot Clinic – Revamped by Patients’ Aid – Bringing Hope to Every Child

Patients’ Aid proudly supports the Club-Foot Clinic at JPMC, which provides early intervention to children born with congenital deformities. For many families, especially those from low-income backgrounds, these treatments would be impossible to afford privately. Early intervention ensures that children can walk, grow, and play without lifelong disability, giving them a chance at a normal future.

Additionally, Patients’ Aid operates a state-of-the-art Radiology Department at JPMC, offering round-the-clock free X-ray services. For orthopedic and physiotherapy patients, timely imaging is crucial for diagnosis and treatment planning. These free radiology services remove financial barriers and ensure no patient is turned away due to inability to pay.
