The Importance of the 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

Blessed Days, Greater Rewards, and Your Chance to Heal Lives

"Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve, in the register of Allah from the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred." (Surah At-Tawbah, 9:36)

Dhul Hijjah, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar, carries immense weight in Islam. It is a month chosen by Allah for Hajj, for the Day of Arafah, and for Eid ul Adha. Within it lie the first ten days, which scholars and hadith unanimously agree are the most blessed days of the entire year.

These days are not just sacred, they are divinely supercharged with reward. They are ten days to realign with our faith, recharge our spirituality, and recommit to the values of sacrifice, generosity, and compassion. One of the most powerful ways to honor this time is through giving charity, supporting those in need not only uplifts others but also purifies our own hearts and multiplies our blessings.

Why Are These Days So Important?

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

"There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." (Bukhari)

Every moment in these ten days carries amplified value. Fasting, praying, giving charity, even simple acts like smiling or helping someone, all are rewarded immensely. Some scholars even argue that the days of Dhul Hijjah surpass the last ten nights of Ramadan in virtue, except for Laylatul Qadr.

These 10 days of Dhul Hijjah give us a precious chance to find our way back to our Rabb by following Sunnat Ibraheem. Allah, in His infinite mercy, grants us these days as a second chance, a divine reminder to return to Him, to increase our good deeds, and to cleanse our hearts from all that weighs us down. It’s a moment to strengthen our faith, reconnect with our purpose, and truly embrace the essence of devotion and humility.

The Day of Arafah

Of all the ten days, the 9th, Day of Arafah, stands out as the peak of divine mercy. It is the day pilgrims gather on the plain of Arafat and supplicate for forgiveness. For those not on Hajj, fasting on Arafah is a highly recommended Sunnah.

“Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.” (Muslim)

Two years of sins wiped clean. What an incredible mercy for simply fasting one day. It’s a day for reflection, tears, and reconnecting with Allah.

The Message of Hajj

Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam, is performed during this sacred month. Pilgrims walk the path of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), sacrificing ego, wealth, and comfort in total surrender to their Creator. The white Ihram clothing removes distinctions of status, race, and wealth, bringing everyone together in equal devotion.

This journey is deeply rooted in Sunnat Ibrahimi, the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), whose unwavering faith and obedience to Allah set the foundation for many of our sacred rituals. Prophet Ibrahim’s life reflects the highest level of trust and devotion, from leaving his family alone in a barren desert at Allah’s command to being ready to sacrifice his own son in full submission to his Lord. Each act during Hajj is a reflection of his story, reminding us to embody the same spirit of faith, surrender, and sacrifice in our own lives.

Even for those of us not going for Hajj, these days still offer an opportunity to experience that same spirit of sacrifice and closeness to Allah, through Sadaqah, fasting, prayer, and sincere repentance.

What These 10 Days Mean for Us?

These days are a sacred invitation to pause and reflect: Have I truly been doing enough? Am I living in a way that draws me closer to my Creator? How can I become a source of comfort and support for those around me? Dhul Hijjah gives us a chance to return to our Creator. This isn’t just about fulfilling rituals, it’s about bringing the heart back to life. It’s a time for humility, sincere reflection, and meaningful action. In these ten blessed days, we’re reminded that faith is not just a personal journey, but a call to uplift others, give generously, and make a difference.
