Patients’ Aid: A Lifeline for Karachi’s Emergency Care

First Aid provided in Accident & Emergency at JPMC

In the densely populated city of Karachi with a population of 22 million, approximately 2,600 accidents and emergencies occur daily and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) stands as a pillar of support. Patients’ Aid revamped and equipped the Accident & Emergency at JPMC enabling it to handle over 2,000 of these cases, 75% of the city’s emergencies. The First Aid provided at JPMC is often the crucial first step in saving lives, stabilizing patients, and offering immediate care for both minor injuries and life-threatening conditions.

At JPMC’s Emergency Ward, everyone is treated completely free of charge. This life-saving service reflects the true essence of first aid, offering urgent, compassionate care until more specialized treatment can be provided. In a city filled with challenges, JPMC’s dedicated efforts continue to be a beacon of hope for all in need.

The Accident and Emergency Department at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), supported by Patients’ Aid, is a vital lifeline for Karachi, handling emergency cases, including burns, motor accidents, and viral outbreaks. A key focus of the department is providing immediate first aid to stabilise patients before they receive advanced medical care. First aid plays a crucial role in emergency situations, as it can significantly impact outcomes by addressing life-threatening conditions such as severe bleeding, fractures, head injuries, and infections.

In 2008, a major renovation transformed the department, thanks to Patients’ Aid Foundation. The upgraded facility now has state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure, enabling the hospital to respond to emergencies with greater efficiency. Since then, the department has been able to provide faster, more effective first aid, which is essential for preventing conditions from deteriorating before further medical care can be administered.

The harsh reality and struggles of the underprivileged in Pakistan

The WHO’s Global Health Expenditure Database for December 2023 reveals that, globally, most governments allocated less than 5 percent of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) or 15 percent of their national budgets to healthcare in 2021. In Pakistan, the situation is more severe, according to a 2024 report by The News International, 50% of the population lacks access to basic primary healthcare services, and approximately 42% are without any health coverage.

Poverty and economic crises are a reality, but the Patients Aid serves as a saviour for humanity, offering crucial support to those in dire need. If you want to make a difference and help provide lifesaving aid, consider donating to the Patients’ Aid Foundation. Any contribution, big or small, can help bridge the gap between survival and care, making a tangible impact on the lives of those who need it most. Hundreds of patients receive treatment at JPMC on a daily basis.

The impact of your donation can change lives

Every donation to the Patients Aid Foundation is a step toward a better and healthier  society. Your contributions help fund essential treatments and provide support where it is needed most.

Here’s what your Zakat/ daily sadqa can do:

  • Emergency support: In emergencies, timely intervention is crucial. Your donations can help ensure that patients receive immediate care, potentially saving lives and stabilising their condition until they can access further treatment.
  • Children in need at JPMC: Your support helps fund critical treatments for children battling severe illnesses. By donating, you are directly contributing to their recovery and giving them a chance at a healthier future.
  • Cancer care: For families facing the critical challenge of cancer, free medical assistance can ease the burden. Your donations help provide necessary treatments and support, offering hope in the face of serious illness.
  • Maternal health: Childbirth should be a moment of joy, not a crisis. Recently, Patients’ Aid has transformed the Gynae and Obstetrics ward at JPMC, providing better access to maternal healthcare. If you want to support these mothers, donate to ensure a healthier start for both mother and baby.

A world-class healthcare system is not a luxury but a necessity. Every country must work to provide its citizens with the highest and quality standard of medical care. At JPMC, Patients’ aid is committed to maintaining top-notch facilities, advanced technology, and a compassionate approach to patient care. However, these efforts would not be possible without the generous support of donors like you.

In Pakistan, where healthcare disparities are common, it is important  to support institutions like the Patients Aid Foundation. Our commitment to healthcare accessibility is not just about providing care but about promoting a healthcare system that is inclusive and equitable.
