Free Brain Tumor Treatment in Karachi

Together, We Can Enable World Class Healthcare For All

On this International Brain Day, we shine spotlight on the silent struggles faced by countless individuals from Karachi, interior Sind & Balochistan battling brain diseases without the means to afford life saving treatment. Patients’ Aid emerged as a beacon of hope for these patients, introducing most advanced robotic cancer treatment consisting of Cyberknife and Tomotherapy at JPMC, free of charge, with a vision to make it accessible to everyone in Karachi and beyond.

Cyberknife:  Robotic Cancer Radiosurgery for Precision Treatment

The CyberKnife system at JPMC is a groundbreaking technology revolutionizing brain tumors/ cancer treatment. Featuring a robotic arm, the CyberKnife delivers highly precise radiation to target tumors with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissues. This level of precision is particularly crucial when treating delicate areas such as brain structures.

A wide range of brain conditions are treated, including:

  • Meningiomas: Typically benign tumours that form on the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord.
  • Pituitary Adenomas: Tumours that occur in the pituitary gland, affecting hormone production.
  • Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM): Abnormal tangles of blood vessels connecting arteries and veins.
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia: A chronic pain condition affecting the trigeminal nerve in the face.
  • Schwannomas: Tumours that develop from the Schwann cells covering the nerves.
  • Brain Metastases: Cancer that has spread to the brain from other parts of the body.

TomoTherapy: Highly Targeted Treatment

TomoTherapy at JPMC is an advanced treatment modality employed by Patients’ Aid that is effective for treating larger or more complex tumors with its highly targeted radiation delivery system. This integrated system combines imaging and radiation delivery, allowing for highly targeted treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.

Currently, 32 patients are treated daily with a combination of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and real-time CT scanning to target and shrink or destroy tumors. This expensive treatment, highly effective on tumors near organs and sensitive tissues, is provided free of charge at JPMC.

The TomoTherapy Centre also provides crucial treatment for paediatric patients with childhood brain tumours, including:

  • Medulloblastomas: The most common malignant brain tumours in children.
  • Brain Stem Gliomas: Tumours located in the brain stem, affecting vital functions.
  • Ependymomas: Tumours that arise from the ependymal cells lining the ventricles in the brain.

To ensure the utmost safety and comfort for the youngest patients, this medical facility offers general anaesthesia facilities, enabling precise and effective treatment without causing distress.

A Commitment to Accessibility and Compassion

By providing these cutting-edge treatments free of cost, Patients’ aid eliminates financial barriers that often prevent patients from seeking advanced healthcare critical for saving lives. This humanitarian initiative is especially significant in our country where healthcare expenses prohibit most families from getting quality treatment.

Patients’ Aid-JPMC’s dedication to serving the community extends beyond just treatment. We also provide comprehensive support to the patients, including counselling and follow-up care, ensuring they receive the best possible outcome from their treatments.

Making a Difference: Real Stories of Hope

The impact of the Patients’ Aid-JPMC CyberKnife and TomoTherapy Centers is best shown through the stories of child patients whose lives have been saved through these advanced treatments, exclusively available free of charge at JPMC with the support of the Patients’ Aid Foundation.

Khaula Ali, a brave 10-year-old, was diagnosed with malignant brain tumour and received her curative radiation therapy through TomoTherapy at JPMC.

Another case of medulloblastoma treated at the TomoTherapy Centre at JPMC, supported by Patients Aid, is 2-year-old Zayan Ali.

Dr. Syeda Rubab Ali, a 30-year-old from Islamabad, was suffering from an acoustic neuroma tumour. Thanks to the CyberKnife Centre, she received precise, non-invasive radiation therapy.
