Celebrate Mothers’ Day 2025 Support a Mother in Need

A mother is more than a relative or a role, she’s a symbol of sacrifice, strength, and unconditional love. Her bond with her child is deep, emotional, and sacred. In Islam, no one holds a status higher than that of a mother. Her struggles are not only recognized, they are revered.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has told us about Mothers:
“Stay with her, for Paradise is beneath her feet.”
(Sunan al-Nasa’i 3104)

This Hadith alone speaks volumes about the immense value and respect Islam places on mothers. The pain, sacrifices, and dedication mothers go through during pregnancy and childbirth are unmatched, and their strength is beyond measure. From enduring nine months of physical challenges to coping with mental health struggles during pregnancy, a mother’s journey is fraught with difficulties.

The Silent Suffering of Mothers in Pakistan

However, for many women in Pakistan, especially in rural areas, these challenges are compounded by financial hardships. The lack of proper maternal healthcare resources and financial instability can place both the mother and child at significant risk. Mental health concerns during pregnancy are often ignored, and the limited access to quality medical care can lead to dangerous outcomes.

In Pakistan, maternal mortality remains a significant concern. Approximately 69% of maternal deaths occur in rural areas, with regions like interior Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab bearing the highest burden. In these underserved areas, nearly 199 women die per 100,000 live births, a staggering and tragic statistic. This should not be the case in a country where childbirth is so common. All mothers deserve access to timely, quality care, regardless of their financial background.

Patients’ Aid Steps In for Our Mothers

Obstetrics & Gynea Ward, JPMC, Patients' Aid

Patients’ Aid recognized the urgent need for improvement in maternal health services and, in response, supported Jinnah Hospital Karachi in revamping its gynecology and obstetrics ward. This critical initiative has made a significant impact, providing essential care to over 2,500 women annually, with approximately 65 deliveries taking place every day. Childbirth is rarely straightforward, and many of these deliveries come with complications that demand specialized, immediate care. On average, one in ten newborns requires intensive medical attention, which makes the need for a fully equipped healthcare facility even more urgent.

The revamped gynecology and obstetrics ward at Jinnah Hospital now offers everything women need for their reproductive health, from maternity care and gynecological treatments to family planning services. It’s a comprehensive, one-stop solution for women’s health. Additionally, to ensure that no newborn faces any medical shortcomings, a fully operational Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is located within the premises. This unit plays a crucial role in providing intensive care for premature or sick babies, giving them the best possible start in life.

This effort aims to ensure that women, especially those from unprivileged backgrounds, receive the care they deserve. Whether it’s prenatal or postnatal care, Jinnah Hospital is equipped to handle a wide range of services, from routine check-ups to complicated cases that require specialized care.

Advanced and Compassionate Care at Jinnah Hospital

The gynecology and obstetrics ward at Jinnah Hospital offers a full spectrum of services that cater to the health needs of women across all stages of life. From preconception counseling to antenatal care, the hospital offers expert services for both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies. Additionally, general gynecological services like treatment for menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, and irregular cycles are available. The ward also provides family planning services to ensure women have access to necessary reproductive health support.

For more complex cases, Jinnah Hospital is home to a specialized 60-bed care unit dedicated exclusively to monitoring high-risk obstetric and gynecological patients. The hospital also has a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), providing essential care to high-risk and premature newborns.

Integrated Healthcare for Women

With the support of Patients’ Aid, Jinnah Hospital has transformed into an integrated healthcare facility, where gynecologists, obstetricians, and specialized nurses work closely alongside physicians from various disciplines. This collaborative approach ensures that women receive the most comprehensive and personalized care possible. The result is improved maternal health, safer deliveries, and a better quality of life for mothers and their babies.

Let’s Honour Mothers by Protecting Their Lives

The work Patients’ Aid has done in supporting Jinnah Hospital Karachi is just the beginning. It is crucial that we continue to improve maternal healthcare in Pakistan, ensuring that no mother loses her child due to a lack of proper care, and that no woman is left untreated because she cannot afford necessary gynecological services. The Jinnah Hospital project is a symbol of hope for countless women, offering them access to the care they need to bring their children into the world safely.
